The Original Caste who produced the version of the song that I was most familiar with pictured something a bit more medieval. A tin soldier, of course, that would have to be a knight.
It started with being a dumping ground for my extraneous projects in Medieval Studies while I was in university, now it is whatever subject I am moved by regarding literature, history or language.

Not familiar with either the song or the movie, but my memory of the late sixties/early seventies isn't extensive (mid seventies onwards, no problem).
It doesn't ring a bell but I will check it out, while avoiding my work ;)
:-) Sad to think that the generation that made this a hit is now voting Republican. Or Conservative. Whatever happened to the anti-war people? Too old to draft, too old to care?
I suppose not all of them are voting Conservative or Republican but yeah, age can dim your mind...combine it with a bit too much pot in your young age and here we go... ;)
I'm not familiar with the song or the movie either, but then I was really young. It's sad how everyone has the "what's in it for me?" mentality when they decide who to vote for.
I was young then too but I have an amazing memory even at an early age. It would be interesting to see what would have happened to Jerry Rubin if he hadn't died in 1994 because in many ways he was typical of the sixties hippies. He became a business man and deeply into wealth creation. He wrote a book called Growing Up at Thirty-Seven. Guess he forgot no one should trust anyone over thirty. :-)
Steve Jobs is another typical boomer, dabbled into eastern mysticism before embarking on wealth creation. How odd that they both died at 56.
Anyway, the boomers betrayed their own movement. They turned out to be bigger hypocrites than their parents.
PS Don't you hate that movie The Big Chill which says the people who were teens or early twenties in the Sixties lead the only lives worth leading? The rest of us wish we were there too cause they were so awesome and deeper than the rest of them? Blech.

Kristin, it is - but some of us are having a hard time trying to choose between the lesser of two evils. Not that our votes make much difference, no matter which party you vote for, it'll get hijacked by vested interests, whether it's Murdoch or this lot:

Maybe a couple of years down the line you'll be able to apply for this:

Yeah, I know. The lesser of two evils is still evil. You get rid of one group and the next one is the same or even worse.
Thanks Vole, but I have some misgivings about proceeding beyond this year. The purpose behind the fund is just one more reason not to go on.
Tracy and Kristin, I am reminded more and more of Rome before Caesar took over. It could be democracy is coming to an end, if it isn't over already and we are left with hollow elections to keep up the pretence. Certainly our governments have been hijacked by multi-national corporations and the super wealthy. But large numbers of people bought into the 'bread and circuses'. Soon the bread will come to an end and we will be left with circuses.
