As I have shown and the Van Hout paper, much of the story is true. That he lived a peaceful life, dying of old age and was buried at Croyland Abbey is supported by the Liber Eliensis and Chronicle of Croyland Abbey. One thing both...Thank you both for the compliments.
One thing bothers me about the 'history' is that I have this huge 20 year gap where nothing happens. Can Hereward really have been content to hang up his sword and tend his garden? He was only 30 when he was reconciled to the king. Bohemond was just starting at that point.
The record and Gesta are silent at this point which is why some people The Red Witchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11731703967439763663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3079559053290094565.post-77159227156350961502011-01-10T15:07:08.631-05:002011-01-10T15:07:08.631-05:00But Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves is great fun, an...But Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves is great fun, anachronist!

Oh yes, it is...only it would be a greater fun for me if it was a wee bit more real. The woman chasing after Hereward was not a widow either. I have one question though: if Hereward's first wife, Turfrida, became a nun how come he could marry again? After all she was still alive and well, only separated from him. Maybe she had died in a covent before his second marriage?Anachronisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10398058819007642332noreply@blogger.com
